I woke up this morning with a question in my head:
“If you knew in your bones there was no time to lose, what would you do in service of the Great Turning?”
As I drink my tea and start the day, I’m curious about this question.
Embodying urgency is never the answer. As Bayo Akomolafe says “The time is very urgent – we must slow down”. It may not be hard for you to picture leaders with anxiety and anger issues doing rushed work that is starving for creativity and relationality… No thanks. Thats not what I want for our world.
But it also might not be hard to picture big hearted people who care deeply, but are not quite able to get into action in the real world, for whatever reason.
This is why I love the “If I knew in my bones” part… how often does denial and comfort take precedent in my mind over the very real need of this time? If lost my ability to distract myself or to conveniently turn away, how might I act differently? How might I offer myself to the Great Turning?
I will continue puzzling over this question, (I take my dreams quite seriously!) because I long to be a person who walks through my days both present to this moment and present to the very real dangers we face… I want to live in response to both.
